Direct Patient Care Volunteers


Volunteers are assigned to patients & their families in the patient’s own home, a nursing home, hospital or other alternative living facility. Assignments vary from a short phone call to a weekly visit for a few hours.

No matter how you help, it’s impossible to overate how much this support means to the patient and family and to the Hospice team working with them.


  • Respite for Caregivers
  • Reading to Patients
  • Visiting with Patients
  • Playing games with Patients
  • Preparing light meals
  • Sitting with Patients to provide compassion & comforting presence

Bedside Vigil Volunteers


Bedside Vigil Volunteers provide patients with a quiet presence & provide families with peace of mind during the patient’s final hours of life by sitting with the patient, so no one dies alone. (Extra training required.)

Special Skills & Interests Needed


  • Cosmetologists / Barbers
  • Licensed Massage Therapist
  • Pet Care - assist patient in caring for their pet
  • Musicians - guitar, keyboard, harp, flute

Indirect Patient Care Volunteers


For volunteers who prefer not to work with patients directly, their time and effort can be put to use in assisting the hospice organization in numerous other ways.

  • Baking & delivering treats
  • Sewing projects
  • Painting (office space)
  • Gardening & yardwork
  • Crafters
  • Treasured memories recorded

We take the Fear Factor out of Volunteering


Every Loving Care volunteer receives free & comprehensive training before being assigned a volunteer job. They learn hospice philosophy, caring for the terminally ill, grief & loss education, communication skills, health & safety precautions & more.


  • Volunteers interested in doing Bedside Vigils receive extra training.
